Motohiro Hata: 20 Years, One Voice
Japanese singer-songwriter Motohiro Hata celebrates 20 years of music at Osaka-jō Hall, bringing solo acoustic, ensemble and full-band performances together for a special anniversary concert.

Twenty years of music. Three ways to experience it. One extraordinary voice. Japanese singer-songwriter Motohiro Hata (秦 基博) celebrates his 20th anniversary with a special concert at Osaka-jō Hall on November 3, 2026, bringing together the different musical styles that have defined his career. From intimate acoustic performances to the expansive sound of a full band, the evening promises a journey through two decades of songs that have become part of Japan’s musical landscape.
Hata made his major-label debut in November 2006 with Synchro, introducing a distinctive voice famously described in Japan as “made of steel and glass.” The phrase captures the combination of strength and delicacy that has become his signature. Accompanied by his acoustic guitar, Hata developed a songwriting style rooted in memorable melodies, emotional honesty and the small moments of everyday life.
His breakthrough into wider popular culture came with “Himawari no Yakusoku” (ひまわりの約束), the beloved theme song from the 2014 animated film Stand by Me Doraemon. Its gentle reflections on friendship and gratitude resonated across generations, introducing Hata’s music to audiences far beyond his established fans. Earlier favorites such as Uroko and later songs including Girl further established his reputation as one of Japan’s most expressive singer-songwriters.
For this anniversary celebration, Hata revisits his music through three distinct performance styles: solo acoustic, acoustic ensemble and full band. The format reflects the musical versatility he has developed over the years, including his long-running GREEN MIND acoustic concert series. Songs familiar in one arrangement can reveal entirely different qualities when performed in another.
The Osaka concert also arrives at a remarkable moment. On November 4, a tribute album featuring interpretations of Hata’s songs by artists including Superfly, Ikimonogakari and Aina the End will be released. Five days later, he takes the anniversary celebration to Yokohama, exactly 20 years after his debut.
For Osaka audiences, November 3 offers the opening chapter of that celebration. The anniversary concert brings the focus back to the voice, guitar and songs that have connected him with listeners for two decades.

- A Signature Voice: Often described in Japan as having a voice made of steel and glass, Hata is known for combining powerful vocal passages with delicate, intimate expression.
- Songs That Endure: His catalog includes Synchro, Uroko, Girl and Himawari no Yakusoku. These are career highlights rather than a confirmed setlist for the anniversary concert.
