Golden Week Guide

Japan moves — and Osaka fills up fast

Golden Week brings one of the busiest travel periods of the year to Osaka, with a packed lineup of events, festivals, and things to do across the city.

Golden Week is one of the few moments each year when the entire country moves at once. It isn’t a single holiday — it’s a cluster. At the end of April and into early May, four national holidays fall within days of each other: Showa Day (April 29), Constitution Memorial Day (May 3), Greenery Day (May 4), and Children’s Day (May 5). With a few extra days of leave added on either side, it becomes one of the longest continuous breaks in the Japanese calendar.

Each year, Golden Week triggers one of the largest waves of travel across Japan. In Osaka, the change is immediate — locals head out of the city while visitors arrive in their place. The result is a different rhythm, and a packed calendar of events that takes over the city for the week.

2026 is no exception. Here are some of the things you can do across Osaka during Golden Week.
