Beer Fest Keeps Katamachi Hopping

Nine Breweries, Five Venues, One Neighborhood to Discover

Katamachi Beer Hopping 2026 features nine craft breweries from across Japan for a weekend of beer, food, music and neighborhood discovery. Osaka’s newest beer festival invites visitors to explore five local establishments, one glass at a time.

There’s a new reason to wander the streets north of Osaka Castle, and it comes with a freshly poured craft beer.

On November 7 and 8, the inaugural Katamachi Beer Hopping brings nine breweries from eight prefectures to five establishments in Katamachi 1-chome. The two-day festival combines Japanese craft beer with local food, music and an independent makers’ market, turning this small Osaka neighborhood into a walkable beer trail.

Katamachi Beer Hopping doesn’t gather everyone in a single park or plaza like conventional beer festivals. Instead, visitors move between neighborhood businesses, trying different beers and discovering the people and places of Katamachi along the way.

Tucked between Osaka Castle, the riverside and Kyobashi’s bustling entertainment district, Katamachi is easy to pass without exploring. Its smaller bars, restaurants and creative spaces offer a different side of central Osaka, one that rewards a little curiosity.

Five existing neighborhood businesses are opening their doors for the festival: Sauna Brew, a Japanese craft beer bottle shop; CASTLE MUSIC YARD, a music-oriented restaurant and bar; Kasumiya Katamachi, a local izakaya; Nakao Saketen, a traditional liquor shop with standing drinking; and Yuruno-mi NoBi, a cozy sake bar and izakaya. Together, they turn Katamachi’s everyday drinking spots into a weekend trail of beer, food and neighborhood discovery.

The brewery lineup stretches across Japan, from Shizuoka’s Baird Beer and Aichi’s Tall Boys Brewing to Okayama’s Lamp Beer Studio and Tokushima’s Hiyori Beer. Hyogo contributes Milestone Brewing and Akashi Brewery, while Hime Beer from Ehime, Diamond Brewery from Shiga and Osaka’s own Shukubaku Brewery complete the nine.

One more reason to keep hopping: a festival stamp rally offers visitors the chance to win Zou no Mai, an unusual golden ale made with rice left over from Zojirushi’s rice-cooker testing. Sponsored by Zojirushi Fresco, the beer gives discarded rice a delicious second life.

There’s an interesting connection to another Osaka beer festival in the brewery lineup. Osaka’s Shukubaku Brewery was involved in Hanaten Beer Fest, an event that helped bring thousands of visitors to a shopping arcade struggling with declining foot traffic. Now participating in Katamachi Beer Hopping, the brewery is bringing its craft beer to another neighborhood with the potential to attract new visitors.

The two festivals have their own identities, but both demonstrate how craft beer can introduce visitors to neighborhoods they might otherwise overlook. Could Katamachi capture some of the same magic that brought new life to Hanaten?

For Katamachi, the opportunity is to introduce visitors to the bars, restaurants and independent businesses already giving the neighborhood its character. The beer may bring them here for the weekend. The discoveries might bring them back.

INFO & TIPS

START AT OSAKAJOKITAZUME
JR Osakajokitazume Station provides a convenient starting point for exploring Katamachi 1-chome. Check the official venue map to plan your route between establishments.

FIVE EXISTING BUSINESSES
The participating venues are Sauna Brew, CASTLE MUSIC YARD, Kasumiya Katamachi, Nakao Saketen and Yuruno-mi NoBi. Each offers a different neighborhood atmosphere, from craft beer retail to traditional Japanese drinking spots.

CHECK THE BREWERY ASSIGNMENTS
Nine breweries are participating, but their individual locations within the festival have not yet been confirmed in the published information. Follow the organizer’s social channels for the final map.

BRING A PAYMENT BACKUP
Payment arrangements may differ between participating establishments. Carrying both cash and a cashless payment option is sensible until the organizers confirm how festival purchases will work.

MAKE A DAY OF IT
