GLAY Ignites a New Chapter

Japan’s Rock Legends Launch Their EXOFIRE Arena Tour in Osaka

Japanese rock legends GLAY return to Osaka for two electrifying nights at Osaka-jō Hall, launching their nationwide EXOFIRE arena tour after closing their 30th-anniversary celebrations in the city last year.

For more than three decades, GLAY has helped define the sound of Japanese rock. Now, after celebrating their remarkable career with a 30th-anniversary finale at Kyocera Dome Osaka in June 2025, the four-piece band returns to the city to begin its next chapter. On November 7 and 8, GLAY launches its 2026–2027 EXOFIRE arena tour at Osaka-jō Hall, opening a nationwide run of 22 performances across 11 venues.

GLAY’s popularity reached extraordinary heights in 1999 when approximately 200,000 fans attended their legendary GLAY EXPO concert in Chiba. Yet their appeal has never rested entirely on record-breaking crowds. Across changing musical trends, the four musicians have maintained a distinctive chemistry, balancing familiar anthems with new material and a continuing appetite for live performance.

That connection with audiences was evident in June 2025, when GLAY brought its 30th-anniversary celebrations to a close at Kyocera Dome Osaka. Japanese music publication Natalie documented the occasion, which marked the culmination of the band’s extensive GLAY EXPO 2024–2025 project. Previous arena-tour performances have also demonstrated how GLAY moves between guitar-driven rock and the sweeping ballads that helped establish its reputation.

EXOFIRE brings the band back to Osaka just 17 months later, this time to the more intimate surroundings of Osaka-jō Hall. The precise staging and setlist for the new arena tour have not yet been confirmed, but the opening concerts offer the first opportunity to experience this latest chapter of GLAY’s live career on an arena stage.

The story began in Hakodate, Hokkaido, where guitarist TAKURO and vocalist TERU formed the foundations of GLAY in 1988. Joined by guitarist HISASHI and bassist JIRO, the band made its major-label debut in 1994 and became one of the defining acts of Japan’s 1990s rock explosion. Their music combined soaring melodies, emotionally charged ballads and powerful guitar arrangements, producing enduring hits including HOWEVER, 誘惑 (Yuuwaku) and Winter, again.

For Osaka audiences, there is a satisfying symmetry. The city that witnessed the conclusion of GLAY’s anniversary celebrations now welcomes the beginning of something new.
