Osaka’s open-air Christmas market returns to Tenshiba with German-style huts, winter food and drink, giant Christmas trees, live music and a month of holiday lights beneath Abeno Harukas.
Osaka doesn’t get much help from the weather when it comes to announcing Christmas. There are no reliably snow-covered streets or frozen windows to tell you the season has arrived. Instead, the signs tend to come in lights, music and — if you happen to be walking through Tenshiba — the smell of sausages, gingerbread and something warm being poured into a mug.
That transformation returns November 20, when the broad green lawn at the entrance to Tennoji Park becomes Christmas Market in Osaka Tenshiba 2026. Wooden huts gather beneath strings of lights, three towering Christmas trees rise above the park — ready-made backdrops for the inevitable Christmas selfie.
German sausages hit the grill alongside pretzels, stollen, sweets and winter dishes, while mugs fill with hot cocoa, German beer and glühwein —warm, spiced wine that proves Europeans figured out long ago that staying warm doesn’t always require a fireplace.
There is plenty to do between refills. Among the market’s 24 shops are stalls selling Christmas ornaments, gifts and seasonal goods, while two workshop booths offer a chance to make something rather than simply buy it. The wooden huts and handmade decorations are part of the atmosphere themselves. The market also releases a limited original mug for 2026, turning that warming drink into a souvenir you can take home once the last drop is gone.
Tenshiba may be an easy place to pass through by day, but Christmas gives you a reason to linger after dark. Illuminated elephants and polar bears join a carousel-inspired photo spot and a new tunnel of light framing Abeno Harukas in the distance. Santa has a house at Tenshiba i:na, too, appearing on selected days for commemorative photos.
It is a relatively young Osaka tradition. The Christmas market first came to Tenshiba in 2023 and has grown quickly, with organizers reporting approximately 295,000 visitors in 2025. Its fourth edition adds three first-time vendors among those 24 shops and an expanded program of live music as Christmas approaches. Gospel and other performances are planned across December weekends and daily from December 19 through Christmas Day.
Come in the afternoon for shopping and something sweet, then watch the park gradually change as daylight disappears. The trees flicker on. The huts begin to glow. Someone comes back carrying hot chocolate. Music drifts across the lawn, and suddenly the glass-and-steel face of Abeno Harukas is looming over a little Christmas village.

Music Stage: Live music expands in 2026, with gospel and other performances scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays in December, then daily from Dec. 19–25. The complete performance timetable has not yet been announced.
Dec. 19 — Emiko Suzuki: The singer and musical-theater performer appears as the market’s special guest, joined by a public-participation choir. Suzuki won the vocal division of the national Gospel Koshien competition while still in high school and made her major-label debut in 2019.
Santa House: Santa appears at Tenshiba i:na on selected, irregular dates for paid commemorative photos. The Santa House itself remains available for photos when Santa is away. Check the official schedule/SNS for appearance updates.
