A Sea of Clouds Rises Over Namba
Walk through a glowing sea of clouds above Namba as mist, light and sound transform Parks Garden after dark. The free Namba Unkai experience spreads across six levels of the rooftop garden through November 1.

You don’t have to climb a mountain to find yourself above the clouds in Japan this autumn. Just head upstairs in Namba for one of the city’s most photogenic new nighttime experiences.
For the first-ever Namba Unkai, Namba Parks is transforming its terraced Parks Garden into a nighttime sea of clouds, using mist, colored light and sound to create six different environments from the 2F entrance to the garden’s 8F upper level. The free experience runs nightly through November 1.
The journey begins on 2F, where clouds spill down the entrance stairs and invite you upward. Climb into Parks Garden and the city gradually gives way to trees, terraces and mist. Clouds roll across the 3F terrace, then gather around the wooden steps one level above. By 5F, you’re walking through Seseragi Forest with mist curling around your feet and the sound of running water nearby. Keep climbing and the mood changes again: the clouds glow red inside the dramatic Red Canyon on 7F before the journey reaches the Green Stage at the top of the garden on 8F.
The setting is part of the attraction. Parks Garden climbs through Namba Parks above the streets of central Osaka, with around 500 species of plants surrounding its paths, terraces and streams. After dark, the greenery, mist and changing light make the rooftop feel surprisingly far removed from the busy streets below.
Clouds normally appear approximately every 30 minutes between 17:30 and 22:00, with each display lasting around three minutes and progressing upward through the garden. But there’s one time worth planning around: at 21:00, Super Unkai Time sends clouds through all six locations simultaneously.
During Silver Week, families get an extra opportunity. On September 22 and 23, cloud displays begin from 11:00, with additional Super Unkai performances at 14:00 as well as 21:00.
There’s no admission fee and no reservation needed. So if you’re shopping, eating or staying around Namba, wait until the lights come on and head upstairs.
For three minutes at 21:00, you might forget you’re standing in the middle of Osaka.

THE EXPERIENCE
Namba Unkai is less a show to stand and watch than a nighttime walk through Parks Garden as the atmosphere changes around you.
- Follow the Clouds Upward – Begin on 2F and climb through terraces, trees, streams and mist toward the top of the garden.
- Watch the Mood Change – Colored lighting and different landscapes give each section of the climb its own atmosphere.
- Find Your Photo – Pause among the clouds, greenery and city lights for one of Namba’s more unusual nighttime photo opportunities.
- Catch Super Unkai – Aim for 21:00 to see all six cloud locations operating simultaneously.
- Carry a Lantern – Reserve an optional illuminated Oboro lantern for an extra visual effect as you walk through the mist.
There’s no prescribed way to rush through it. Give yourself time to wander, wait for the next cloud cycle and see how each level changes after dark.
INFO & TIPS
Best Time: If you’re planning around a specific time, make it 21:00 for Super Unkai. Otherwise, clouds appear approximately every 30 minutes between 17:30 and 22:00.
You May Get Wet: The mist can dampen clothing, cameras and belongings. The organizer recommends bringing a towel or handkerchief.
Weather Matters: Strong wind can disperse the mist and reduce the effect, while temperature and humidity can also affect visibility. Severe weather may cause the experience to be canceled.
Photography: Photos and video are part of the fun, and Namba Parks is even planning a Parks Garden photo contest during the event period. Contest details are to be announced separately.
Families: September 22 and 23 are particularly family-friendly, with daytime clouds beginning at 11:00 and an additional Super Unkai at 14:00.
Food & Drinks: Namba Parks has restaurants and food options throughout the complex, making Unkai easy to combine with dinner or drinks before or after the walk.
Smoking: Parks Garden is completely non-smoking. Designated smoking areas are available inside Namba Parks on 3F and 6F.
