Santa Parade Osaka Brings Holiday Cheer

Thousands of Santas, One Extraordinary Christmas Mission

Osaka Castle Park fills with thousands of Santas walking and running together for a festive 4 km charity parade, bringing Christmas joy to children receiving hospital care.

Imagine thousands of Santas gathering beneath the towering stone walls of , their bright red suits transforming the park into a sea of Christmas cheer. Some arrive with friends, others bring their families, and many return year after year. But behind the laughter, costumes and festive atmosphere lies a mission that makes this one of Osaka’s most heartwarming holiday traditions.

SANTA PARADE OSAKA 2026 returns to Osaka Castle Park on Sunday, December 6, inviting participants to dress as Santa Claus and join a charity parade supporting children receiving medical care. Beginning at Taiyō no Hiroba, the approximately 4 km event brings people together for a celebration where having fun also helps make someone else’s Christmas brighter.

The idea is wonderfully simple. Participants register, put on their Santa costumes and join a cheerful procession through the park. The result is an extraordinary sight: hundreds upon hundreds of red-and-white figures moving together against one of Osaka’s most recognizable historic backdrops. Families, students, groups of friends and individual participants all become part of the spectacle.

Yet the real magic happens beyond the parade route. A portion of the participation fees helps provide Christmas presents to children spending the holiday season in hospitals and other medical facilities. In 2025, approximately 4,000 Santas participated, helping organizers deliver gifts to 1,432 children. The numbers offer a remarkable reminder that a few hours of festive fun can have an impact far beyond the event itself.

Joining the celebration is straightforward. Adult participation costs ¥3,300, students pay ¥2,200, and children ages three through junior high school pay ¥1,100. Santa costumes are included for adults and students, while younger participants receive Santa hats. Those who already have their own outfits can choose the Eco Santa option.

The approximately 4 km route is designed around participation rather than competition. It’s a chance to enjoy Osaka Castle Park in festive company, take memorable photographs and become part of something larger than an ordinary December outing.

With thousands of Santas, one of Japan’s most famous castles and a charitable mission at its heart, Santa Parade Osaka proves that sometimes the best way to celebrate Christmas is to help make it special for someone else.
