The T-Rex Are Back
Osaka’s inflatable dinosaurs are back — and this year they’re taking the stage! Dozens of inflatable dinosaurs race across Tsurumi Ryokuchi as Osaka’s wonderfully ridiculous Tyrannosaurus Race returns for a second year.
The dinosaurs are back.
After making its Tsurumi Ryokuchi debut in 2025, the Tyrannosaurus Race returns to the park’s Great Lawn on October 31 and November 1, bringing another weekend of inflatable T. rexes sprinting, stumbling and bouncing their way toward the finish line as part of Tsurumi Ryokuchi Festa.
And this is a real race. The event is officially sanctioned by the Japan Tyrannosaurus Competition Federation, with separate divisions for adult males and females, elementary-school boys and girls, preschool children and two-person adult relay teams. Qualifying races begin in the morning, followed by finals throughout the day and the adult relay final at 16:00.
The rules are simple but the sight is anything but ordinary: competitors climb inside full-body inflatable Tyrannosaurus costumes and race across the lawn. Participation costs ¥2,000 per race, with advance reservations given priority. Racers can bring their own dinosaur suit or reserve one of a limited number of rentals for an additional ¥1,000.
For 2026, the dinosaurs are expanding beyond the racetrack. The new Tyranno Collection makes its debut on the stage inside the Auxiliary Exhibition Hall, giving participants a chance to show off their T. rex through poses, performances and whatever other prehistoric personality they can squeeze out of an inflatable costume. Participation in the stage event is free.
The race first came to Tsurumi Ryokuchi in 2025, and its return as the official 2nd Tyrannosaurus Race gives Osaka one of its more unusual new annual-event traditions. It also fits naturally into the larger Tsurumi Ryokuchi Festa, where the dinosaurs become one particularly conspicuous part of a full weekend in the park.
You don’t have to race to enjoy it. Spectators can watch from around the Great Lawn for free, making this an easy event to stumble across while exploring Tsurumi Ryokuchi Festa — although watching dozens of inflatable Tyrannosaurus rexes charge across a field may make everything else happening in the park seem unusually normal.

From Tsurumi-ryokuchi Station: Exit the station and head toward the park’s Central Entrance. Cross Hanahaku-dori and enter Tsurumi Ryokuchi, then follow park signs toward the Great Lawn (大芝生). The park entrance is immediately beside the station; allow additional walking time inside the large park to reach the race area.
From Osaka Station: Take the JR Osaka Loop Line to Kyobashi Station ↔ transfer to the Osaka Metro Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line → Tsurumi-ryokuchi Station. The official park guide estimates approximately 7 minutes from Osaka to Kyobashi and another 9 minutes from Kyobashi to Tsurumi-ryokuchi, excluding transfer and waiting time.

Registration for each race begins 30 minutes before its scheduled start.
TICKETS & RACE REGISTRATION
Watching the Tyrannosaurus Race is free. Competitors pay ¥2,000 per race, payable in cash at the venue.
Advance registration is strongly recommended and is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes seven days before the event, or earlier if a category reaches capacity. Same-day entry is possible only if places remain.

THE EXPERIENCE
The officially sanctioned race puts competitors inside full-body inflatable Tyrannosaurus costumes for a day of qualifying heats, finals and relays across Tsurumi Ryokuchi’s enormous Great Lawn.
