Osaka Castle has witnessed centuries of warfare, destruction and rebuilding. But the familiar white-and-green Main Tower rising above the city today has a birthday of its own. On November 7, 2026, it turns 95.
To celebrate, Osaka Castle is inviting visitors to enjoy food, music, history and hands-on cultural experiences beneath its imposing stone walls. From October 9 through November 29, the historic grounds near Sakuramon Gate become a gathering place marking the reconstructed Main Tower’s 95th anniversary.
The anniversary commemorates November 7, 1931, when the present Main Tower opened following a reconstruction funded by Osaka citizens. Historical exhibits developed in cooperation with Osaka Castle Museum introduce visitors to the landmark’s remarkable past, while a series of special events brings Japanese culture and local traditions into the celebration.
At the Higashi-Ōbanshū guardhouse site, food trucks, outdoor seating and historical displays welcome visitors throughout the celebration. Set against the castle’s massive stone walls and changing autumn scenery, the gathering offers a relaxing break while exploring one of Osaka’s most recognizable landmarks.
During the November 7–8 weekend, participating food trucks offer special dishes featuring ingredients from Nagano and Ueda, celebrating 20 years of friendship between Osaka Castle and Ueda Castle. The weekend also features historical performances and demonstrations at the Main Tower as part of the Osaka Castle Autumn Festival. (See our coverage of the Osaka Castle Autumn Festival.)
The cultural program continues with three distinctive hands-on experiences. On November 12, visitors can create artwork using colorful fallen leaves collected from Osaka Castle Park. The following day, November 13, a calligraphy workshop invites participants to reproduce Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s signature and handwriting using examples preserved in historical documents. On November 14, a traditional soba-making workshop introduces participants to the craft of preparing Japanese buckwheat noodles. The free experience is limited to nine groups that day, with three sessions scheduled throughout the day.
Throughout November, visitors can also participate in Osaka Castle in Autumn 2026 Through My Eyes, a photography campaign inviting people to capture their favorite views of the castle and share them through Instagram. Selected photographs will be displayed during the latter half of the month, creating a community exhibition celebrating the landmark and its seasonal surroundings.
The timing coincides with Osaka Castle Park’s autumn transformation, as maples turn red and the park’s famous ginkgo trees develop their golden foliage. Visitors can explore the historic grounds, photograph the changing scenery and enjoy refreshments near Sakuramon Gate.
While the Main Tower’s 95th birthday falls on November 7, the extended celebration continues through November 29, with daily food trucks, historical displays and the autumn photography campaign offering reasons to visit throughout the season.
