Macaroni Enpitsu Plays It for Real
Macaroni Enpitsu opens its latest arena tour at Osaka-jō Hall on October 3 and 4, bringing new music, familiar hits and the band’s increasingly live-focused sound to Osaka.
Macaroni Enpitsu has the résumé of a band that knows exactly what it is doing with its instruments. All four current members come from music-university backgrounds. Lately, though, they have become increasingly interested in what happens when they stop decorating the sound and simply play.
That approach arrives at Osaka-jō Hall on October 3 and 4, when Macaroni Enpitsu opens Makarock Tour vol.22 〜Ima, Kimi ga Suki! Hen〜 with two Osaka performances. The new arena tour runs for 11 shows across seven cities, with Osaka getting the first two nights. Both performances are already sold out.
Formed in Kanagawa in 2012 around vocalist and guitarist Hattori, the band now consists of bassist Kenya Takano, guitarist Yoshiaki Tanabe and keyboardist Daiki Hasegawa alongside its frontman. Their formal training hasn’t confined them to one sound: guitars and keyboards can trade prominence while songwriting contributions from different members give the catalogue more than one musical voice.
That versatility has produced songs many listeners already know, including “Nandemonaiyo,” “Koitogokko” and “Young Adult.” Anime audiences have encountered the band too. “Wasurena Uta” was the ending theme for Oblivion Battery, “Shikaraba” opened the second cour of Blue Box, and the new “Shūshō” is the opening theme for 2026 anime World Is Dancing. Earlier, “Hoshi ga Oyogu” served as an opening theme for Summer Time Rendering.
The band’s current phase is particularly live-minded. Discussing the album physical mind, Hattori said that extensive touring had markedly improved their live skills and the way the ensemble plays together. Keyboardist Hasegawa described becoming comfortable relying on the strength of the sounds themselves instead of sheer numbers of layers, while Takano explained that the musicians had spent considerable time defining their individual roles within the live arrangement.
There will be brand-new material to put through that philosophy in Osaka. The “Unmei Sagashi / Shūshō” EP arrives September 16, just over two weeks before the arena tour begins, carrying three songs including the new anime theme.
For four musicians increasingly interested in what they can communicate through the instruments in their hands, Osaka-jō Hall gives them a very large room in which to play it for real.
