Kobukuro Comes Home to Osaka
Born from two street musicians meeting in Sakai, Kobukuro returns to Osaka-jō Hall for two nights during the 25th anniversary of its major-label debut, carrying one of Japanese pop’s most enduring catalogues back home.
Long before Kobukuro could fill Osaka-jō Hall, there were two musicians playing separately on the streets of Sakai.
Kentaro Kobuchi and Shunsuke Kuroda met there in 1998. Kobuchi, then working as a salesman, spent Saturday nights performing in a local shopping street; Kuroda had already been busking in the area for several years. By September, they had joined forces. Twenty-eight years later, Kobukuro returns to Osaka for two nights at Osaka-jō Hall on October 6 and 7.
The concerts are part of KOBUKURO LIVE TOUR 2026 霞日和 (Kasumi Biyori), a 22-show national tour. Osaka occupies a particularly fitting place in the itinerary. The tour already returned Kobukuro to Sakai for two performances at Fenice Sakai in August before bringing the duo back to one of the city’s major arenas.
It also comes during the 25th anniversary of Kobukuro’s major-label debut. The pair debuted on March 22, 2001 with “YELL Yell/Bell,” beginning a run that would turn songs including “Sakura,” “Koko ni Shika Sakanai Hana” and “Tsubomi” into staples of Japanese popular music.
The numbers eventually became enormous. Their 2006 collection ALL SINGLES BEST sold more than three million copies, while “Tsubomi” received the Japan Record Award the following year.
Yet the 2026 tour isn’t built entirely on memory. Its title comes from “Kasumi Biyori,” released in July as part of the double-A-side single “Kasumi Biyori / Starry Smile Story.” The song reflects on loss while tracing memories and time shared with someone important, giving the tour a reflective centerpiece during a milestone year.
That gives the Osaka dates a deeper resonance than another stop on a national tour. Kobukuro began with two voices, a guitar and the passing crowds of Sakai. This October, those same roots lead back to Osaka-jō Hall.

Osaka-jō Hall concerts can create heavy pedestrian traffic around Osakajokoen and Osaka Business Park stations. Allow additional time before doors open.

Osaka-jō Hall does not have its own visitor parking. The venue recommends using public transportation, especially on event days when surrounding parking can become congested.
