International Art Arrives in Osaka
Arrival Gallery returns to Osaka with around 20 international artists, mixing painting, photography and sculpture with digital and screen-based work in Higashitenma.
Arrival Gallery returns to Osaka this October, bringing another international group exhibition to Higashitenma in Kita Ward, just east of central Osaka and within walking distance of Osaka Tenmangu. Running October 16–19, the four-day show is expected to bring together around 20 artists working across painting, photography, sculpture, illustration, textiles, mixed media and digital art.
Held at MAG Minamimorimachi Art Gallery in Higashitenma, the October exhibition follows Arrival’s first Osaka show there in April, when physical and digital art shared the same intimate gallery environment. Paintings and other physical works covered dark gallery walls while nearby screens presented photography and digital pieces, with visitors moving freely between the two.
That mix gives the Osaka edition some personality. There are paintings to stand in front of and examine in the traditional way, but the exhibition format also makes room for work that lives naturally on a screen. Photography, digital art and mixed media mingle with painting, sculpture, illustration and textiles, allowing very different forms of contemporary art to share one room.
Exactly what visitors will encounter in October is still taking shape. Arrival builds each exhibition through a curated open-call process rather than working from a permanent artist roster, with the final Osaka artists and works expected to be confirmed around October 10.
The April show was a compact, social affair, with visitors gathering close to the artwork, talking throughout the gallery and moving between conventional wall displays and illuminated screens. Music added to the atmosphere during the opening reception, turning the first evening into something closer to an art gathering than a quiet gallery visit.

October begins the same way, with an opening reception on October 16 from 18:30–21:00, followed by three more days to explore the exhibition. The collection is assembled specifically for Osaka rather than simply moved from one city to another, giving each Arrival show its own combination of artists and work.
For a city with no shortage of painting exhibitions, Arrival offers something a little different: traditional and digital work sharing the room, an international collection assembled in Osaka, and four days to see what arrived.

INFO & TIPS
What should I know before going?
Arrival Gallery Osaka is a compact group exhibition rather than a large museum show, making it easy to combine with time around Minamimorimachi, Osaka Tenmangu or Tenjinbashisuji.
The exhibition closes between its daytime and evening sessions, so plan around the 13:00–16:00 break rather than assuming the gallery remains open throughout the afternoon.
For the liveliest experience, consider the October 16 opening reception from 18:30–21:00. For a quieter look at the work, one of the regular daytime or evening viewing periods may be preferable.
