An Anniversary Celebration for the Whole Family
Nanoniwa, Osaka’s open-air park and dining space marks its second anniversary with a weekend of performances, family activities, and relaxed spring energy—just steps from Osaka Castle.
Two years after opening, Nanoniwa has settled into Osaka life in the most natural way possible—by becoming part of the Osaka Castle routine. Located within Naniwa Palace Ruins Park, this open lawn and restaurant-lined space now marks its second anniversary with a two-day celebration anticipated on March 28 & 28, 2027, that reflects how people actually use it: casually, socially, and outdoors.
The park itself sits on the historic site of the ancient Naniwa Palace, and that layered identity is part of its appeal. Visitors move between past and present without really thinking about it—walking through wide green space, stopping at modern dining spots, and then encountering traces of Osaka’s early history embedded in the landscape. This anniversary weekend leans into that dual identity, blending light entertainment with cultural touchpoints.
Last year’s celebration “Everyone’s Nanoniwa Festival”「みんなのにわ祭」, was a relaxed, drop-in style gathering featuring stage programming which brought a steady flow of music, comedy, and local performances, creating an easygoing backdrop rather than a headline-driven show. It’s the kind of atmosphere where you can arrive at any time and still feel like something is happening and we can expect it again in 2027!

The collaboration with Osaka Museum of History adds a second layer, offering interactive elements like history quizzes and AR experiences such as “Naniwa-ru,” where visitors can explore the ancient palace site through their phones. These digital overlays sit alongside physical exhibits and hands-on displays, making the history feel present without interrupting the flow of the park.

Families will find plenty to do throughout the day, with clearly defined play zones including a large inflatable jump area, LEGO-style creative stations, and open lawn space for free play. Workshops, reading sessions, and casual activities are spread throughout the park, while nearby cafés, restaurants, and pop-up food options make it easy to settle in for a few hours rather than just pass through.
What makes this weekend particularly appealing is timing. As Osaka enters sakura season, the lawns at Nanoniwa offer a more spacious alternative to the dense crowds insideOsaka Castle Park. For many visitors, this has already become the place to land after exploring the castle—and during this anniversary weekend, that familiar stop gains just enough extra energy to feel like a discovery.
