An Organ Symphony Concert
Music Scene

An Organ Symphony Concert

Philharmonic Winds Osaka explores the dramatic sound of pipe organ and wind orchestra.

One of classical music’s most powerful combinations arrives in Osaka this autumn. Featuring Saint-Saëns’ famous “Organ Symphony” alongside works by Dukas and Milhaud, the 48th Subscription Concert transforms Sumitomo Life Izumi Hall into a showcase for French musical color and grandeur.

The Philharmonic Winds Osaka 48th Subscription Concert arrives at Sumitomo Life Izumi Hall on September 20, 2026, built around a theme that audiences rarely have the opportunity to experience live: Organ × Wind Orchestra. Conducted by Takashi Hoshide, the program brings together the rich sound of a pipe organ and one of Japan’s leading professional wind ensembles for an afternoon of French masterworks.

The centerpiece of the concert is Camille Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3 “Organ”, one of the most celebrated works ever written for the instrument. Joining the orchestra is guest organist Kensuke Ohira, whose performance helps bring the symphony’s famous climaxes and sweeping musical landscapes to life. Even listeners unfamiliar with classical music often recognize the dramatic power of the work once it begins to unfold.

Presented by Philharmonic Winds Osaka (Osakan), the concert continues the ensemble’s long-running Subscription Concert series. Known for imaginative programming and high-level performance, the orchestra regularly explores repertoire that highlights the unique possibilities of the wind orchestra format while introducing audiences to music they may not encounter elsewhere.

The program also includes Paul Dukas’ Fanfare pour précéder La Péri and Darius Milhaud’s Suite Française, two works that showcase different sides of French musical tradition. Together, the pieces move from ceremonial brilliance and rhythmic energy to the monumental scale of Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony, creating a program connected by color, atmosphere, and orchestral imagination.

Set within the acclaimed acoustics of Sumitomo Life Izumi Hall, the concert offers an opportunity to hear one of classical music’s most unusual and powerful musical partnerships. Whether you are a longtime classical music fan or simply curious about the sound of a pipe organ and wind orchestra performing together, this is a performance unlikely to be forgotten.
