Myaku-Myaku returns for One Bright Night

Expo Drone Show lights up Osaka again

One year after Expo 2025 begins, Osaka brings the experience back—for one night. A special drone show, food, talks, and future-themed exhibits transform Expo ’70 Park into a bridge between past and future.

One year after the opening of Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, Osaka shifts into its next phase—not by looking back, but by bringing the experience forward. The EXPO2025 Futures Festival transforms Expo ’70 Commemorative Park into a one-day celebration of ideas, culture, and global connection, anchored by a returning highlight that defined the Expo itself: a large-scale nighttime drone show.

Held on April 12, the main event unfolds across open lawns and park spaces that once hosted Japan’s first World Expo in 1970. That historical backdrop is part of the story. Where Osaka once introduced itself to the world, it now reactivates that legacy—blending Expo 2025 content, future-facing exhibits, and public programming into a full-day experience accessible to anyone willing to make the short trip north of the city.

Throughout the day, the festival presents a mix of stage talks, performances, and interactive exhibits. Talks led by Expo thematic producers bring back the intellectual core of the Expo, while installations and pavilion-inspired displays allow visitors to revisit key ideas and concepts in a more open, relaxed setting. It’s less about queues and more about movement—wandering, discovering, and engaging at your own pace.

Food plays a central role as well. Kitchen cars recreate dishes inspired by Expo pavilions, turning the park into a casual international food zone. Alongside this, merchandise booths and pop-up experiences offer another layer of interaction, echoing the atmosphere of the Expo grounds without the scale or density.

As evening approaches, attention shifts skyward. At 19:30, the “One World, One Planet.” drone show returns for a special one-night performance. Originally one of the most memorable visual elements of Expo 2025, the show uses synchronized drones to create moving imagery and light across the night sky. In the open space of Banpaku Park, it becomes a shared moment—short, precise, and visually striking.

Running alongside the main event is EXPO2025 Futures Station, a week-long satellite activation from April 8 to 14 near Osaka Metro Chuo Line at Yumeshima. Positioned at the future Expo site, it extends the experience into the city itself, linking where the Expo happened with where its legacy continues to evolve.

For Osaka, this is more than a commemorative event. It marks a transition—from hosting the world to redefining what comes next. For visitors, it’s a rare second chance to experience the atmosphere of Expo 2025, condensed into a single day and a single night.

One Night Only – The Expo drone show returns for a single performance at 19:30.

Expo Revisited –Pavilion concepts and experiences return in a more open format.

Future Talks – Thematic producers lead discussions on Expo ideas and innovation.

Global Street Food – Kitchen cars recreate international pavilion flavors.

Two Locations – Banpaku Park and Yumeshima connect Expo past and future.
