Movies Under the Stars in Umeda

Two Nights of Outdoor Cinema to Grand Green Osaka

ZYOYUSAI returns with two nights of Japanese films, food and drinks, glowing bubbles and outdoor cinema in the heart of Umeda.

Grab a spot on the grass and settle in for a movie under the Osaka sky.

Movie night is moving onto the lawn in the heart of Umeda. ZYOYUSAI returns to Osaka September 19–20, turning ROHTO Heart Square UMEKITA at Grand Green Osaka into an open-air cinema with two Japanese films, food and drinks, and thousands of illuminated soap bubbles floating through the night.

The fun starts well before the opening credits. Gates open at 17:00, giving everyone time to claim a patch of grass, find something to eat and drink and settle in as evening falls over Umeda. Movies begin at 18:30,

Saturday, September 19 features 366 Days (366日), the 2025 romantic drama inspired by HY’s hit song.

Sunday, September 20 follows with 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days (青春18×2 君へと続く道), the 2024 Japan-Taiwan romance about a man retracing memories of his first love during a journey through Japan. Romance, nostalgia and a giant screen under the night sky — ZYOYUSAI clearly knows what it’s doing.

The lawn is the theater. Stretch out directly on the grass or bring a leisure sheet or chair and make yourself comfortable. Premium options add reclining chairs and upgraded viewing areas, while event wristbands allow visitors to leave and re-enter during the evening.

Food and drinks are part of the night, too, with vendors operating inside the venue. Outside food and beverages generally aren’t permitted, so arrive hungry and make an evening of it.

Then the lights go down and the bubbles come out. Countless illuminated soap bubbles will float above the outdoor cinema after dark, adding a little spectacle to the space around the screen.

And perhaps the best part is how easy the whole thing is. ROHTO Heart Square UMEKITA sits inside Grand Green Osaka, directly connected to JR Osaka Station via the Umekita Underground Exit. Step out of one of Japan’s busiest stations and, minutes later, you can be stretched out on the grass waiting for the movie to start.

After making its Osaka debut on the Sennan waterfront last summer, ZYOYUSAI moves into the heart of Umeda for 2026. But Grand Green feels almost purpose-built for this version of it: a huge screen, an open lawn, something good to eat and drink, glowing bubbles drifting overhead and a movie playing beneath the Osaka night sky. For two late-summer evenings, Umeda gets its own outdoor movie theater.

Movies Under the Stars — Watch two Japanese romances on a giant outdoor screen as night falls over Umeda.

Claim the Lawn — Bring a leisure sheet or chair, find your spot and settle in before the movie starts.

Dinner and a Movie — Pick up food and drinks from vendors and make a full evening of it.

Bubbles After Dark — Watch illuminated soap bubbles float through the venue after sunset.

Cinema in Central Osaka — Enjoy an outdoor movie night at Grand Green Osaka, just steps from JR Osaka Station.
