For most of the year, Osaka’s architecture is something you walk past. For one weekend in October, you’re invited inside.
IkeFes Osaka 2026 — Open House Osaka — returns October 24–25 with a record 224 buildings and sites expected to participate across the city. Historic landmarks, modern architecture, working offices, shops and infrastructure become one enormous open house, with special access to spaces normally closed to the public and opportunities to hear about the buildings from owners and experts. Thirty-two locations are joining for the first time in 2026.
The idea is wonderfully simple: the museum is Osaka itself. Visitors choose the architecture that interests them and construct their own day, walking through the city from one discovery to another. The official program makes that enormous choice manageable. Visitors can search participating buildings by neighborhood, program type, date and whether advance registration was required, then use individual listings and maps to plan their own itinerary. The festival also publishes an official guidebook, while an information center has helped visitors find programs that can still be joined without advance reservations.
Among the 2026 buildings worth watching are the ornate 1931 Mengyo Kaikan (Cotton Industry Club), the historic Bank of Japan Osaka Branch, Midosuji’s modernist Osaka Gas Building, Kitahama’s Art Deco Ikoma Building, and the William Merrell Vories-designed Daimaru Shinsaibashi Main Building. Previous editions have offered special programs at all five.
But “living architecture” extends well beyond famous landmarks. The 2026 list includes offices, cafés, railway stations, bridges and infrastructure, with newcomers including Yumeshima Station and the Swiss Consulate in Osaka. Even the historic Sankyubashisuji Taiko (Sewari) Sewer appears on the list — although we’ll have to wait for September to discover exactly what that means for visitors.
IkeFes has grown enormously since its first full edition in 2014, when 55 buildings attracted approximately 10,000 visits. By 2025 it had reached 199 buildings, 272 programs and approximately 67,000 visits. This year’s planned 224 locations establish another record.
Trying to see all of them misses the point. Choose a few doors you’ve always wanted to open, build a walk through Osaka around them and see what you discover along the way. Don’t just look at Osaka. Go inside.

Where does IkeFes Osaka take place?
There is no single venue. Open House Osaka spreads across the city, with a record 224 buildings and sites planned for the 2026 edition.
Participating locations stretch across central Osaka and beyond, including Semba, Kitahama, Nakanoshima, Umeda, Shinsaibashi and other neighborhoods. Buildings are grouped geographically in the official program, making it possible to choose several nearby locations and explore them on foot.
The preliminary 2026 building list is available now. Detailed programs, opening hours and participation procedures are scheduled for release around the end of September.

Main Weekend: October 24–25, 2026
There are no universal festival hours. Each participating building sets its own opening times and program schedule, and some locations may participate for only part of the weekend.
The full 2026 program has not yet been released. Organizers say individual programs and participation procedures will be announced around the end of September.

Is Open House Osaka free?
The festival is generally free to participate in. Individual programs may have different participation requirements, particularly special tours or experiences with limited capacity.
Previous editions have included both:
No Application Required — Visit during the building’s published program hours.
Advance Application — Limited-capacity programs that require registration, with some popular experiences allocated by lottery.
The exact 2026 application system, deadlines and program requirements have not yet been announced, so visitors interested in special-access programs should check the official site when the full program is released.
