From a Tatami Room to Osaka-jō Hall
GADORO makes his first solo appearance at Osaka-jō Hall on September 21 with “Hitorigoto,” a sold-out arena show built on one of Japanese hip-hop’s most impressive journeys.
GADORO has spent much of his career rapping about weakness, failure and the parts of himself that would be easier to hide. On September 21, he’ll do it in front of an Osaka-jō Hall crowd.
For anyone discovering the Miyazaki rapper for the first time, the scale of that achievement makes more sense when you go back to where his career began.
Born in Takanabe, Miyazaki Prefecture in 1990, GADORO started rapping while still in high school after encountering the music of Hannya. He built his reputation through Japan’s fiercely competitive MC battle scene, eventually reaching the top at KING OF KINGS. In 2016 he became champion — then returned in 2017 and won again, becoming the competition’s first back-to-back champion. His official biography confirms both the high-school origin and unprecedented consecutive championships.
But GADORO’s recorded music revealed a different kind of rapper. His 2017 debut album was called Yojohan — “Four and a Half Tatami Mats” — a reference to the tiny room where he was living. Vulnerability, loneliness and struggle became part of his identity rather than things to disguise. His official biography still describes his music in terms of embracing both “weakness” and “strength” and connecting with people experiencing loneliness and conflict.
The rooms have grown considerably since then.
In March 2025, GADORO reached a long-declared goal with his first solo concert at Nippon Budokan. It sold out. In April 2026, he moved up again to Yokohama Arena. That sold out too. Now comes his first solo performance at Osaka-jō Hall.
The Osaka concert is titled “Hitorigoto” (独り言) — a Japanese word for talking to oneself, or a thought spoken aloud. It also echoes “Hitorigoto” (ヒトリゴト), a track on GADORO’s latest album, mile, released June 17.
There is something wonderfully contradictory about it: a rapper whose music can feel like someone thinking out loud to himself is now doing exactly that inside one of Osaka’s biggest arenas.
From a four-and-a-half-tatami room to Osaka-jō Hall, GADORO has found a lot more people listening.
