Godzilla Photo Mission
The Earth shakes — and in Osaka, Godzilla is back. From September 27 to October 26, 2025, snap epic Godzilla‑meets‑Osaka Castle shots, claim exclusive gifts at Godzilla stores, and roam a monster rally that’s part fan quest, part city tour.

Normally, we wouldn’t promote a store event – but here at OSAKA SCENE we can’t resist anything Godzilla! Even better, this event should fit seamlessly into your sightseeing schedule, adding more fun (and adventure) to your time in Osaka.
Osaka turns into monster territory this fall with the Godzilla Osaka Photo Mission — a free, city-wide rally that blends tourism, fan play, and Godzilla lore into one unforgettable scavenger hunt. Participants travel between Osaka Castle’s Miraiza / Kaiyodo Figure Museum and the Godzilla Store Umeda and Godzilla Store Osaka, capturing photos that place Godzilla squarely in the heart of the city.
This isn’t just any rally: it’s a tribute to Osaka’s starring role in kaiju history. The 1955 film Godzilla Raids Again—known in Japan as Gojira no Gyakushū—was the first sequel in the Godzilla franchise and famously brought the King of the Monsters to Osaka for a devastating showdown with Anguirus. The battle scenes around Osaka Castle became iconic, cementing the city’s place in monster movie legend.
The rally cleverly weaves this cinematic legacy into the modern cityscape. At Miraiza Osaka Castle, fans scan a QR code to unlock a special digital photo frame, then photograph Godzilla looming over the real castle walls—an echo of the film’s original rampage. Participants then bring their photo to Godzilla Store Umeda or Godzilla Store Osaka, where they can claim a limited-edition certificate card or artwork gift. It’s a playful mix of pilgrimage and photo mission, and all participation is free.
Along the way, you’ll find original sumi-e visual merchandise, themed for the 70th anniversary of Godzilla Raids Again, available at all three venues. There’s also a film introduction exhibit that connects the mission to Osaka’s historic role in the franchise. Light, fun, and packed with photo ops, the Godzilla Osaka Photo Mission is a must for kaiju fans, photographers, and anyone who loves a clever rally with a cultural twist.
Best of all, if you’re following OSAKA SCENE’s popular One, Two or Three Day in Osaka travel itinerary, you’re already hitting these locations: the day begins at Osaka Castle, flows north to Umeda, and often wraps up in Shinsaibashi—exactly the three mission stops. That makes this Godzilla rally a perfect add-on, especially for first-time visitors looking to spice up their photos and bring a bit of monster magic to their trip.
