Land of Light

Ultraman’s World Comes To Osaka

For six decades, Ultraman has protected Earth from giant monsters, alien invaders, and cosmic threats. This summer, fans have a chance to do something previous generations could only imagine: step inside his world. Ultraman XR Journey transforms TV Osaka’s headquarters into an immersive adventure through the Land of Light, combining virtual reality, giant kaiju encounters, hero history, and interactive photo experiences in celebration of one of Japan’s most iconic heroes.

Few Japanese pop-culture icons have achieved the global reach of Ultraman. Since first appearing on television in 1966, the silver giant from the Land of Light has become one of Japan’s most recognizable heroes, inspiring generations of fans across Asia and around the world. To celebrate the franchise’s 60th anniversary, Land of Light Museum: Ultraman XR Journey arrives at the TV Osaka 1F Multipurpose Hall in Osaka’s Chuo Ward from June 13 through August 30, 2026. The immersive attraction places visitors directly inside the Ultraman universe, transforming a simple exhibition visit into a journey through the Land of Light itself.

The first thing visitors should know is that this is not a traditional museum exhibition. Rather than displaying rows of costumes, props, and production materials behind glass, Ultraman XR Journey uses XR technology to transport participants into a fully virtual adventure. After creating an avatar, visitors begin a roughly 30-minute journey from Earth to the Land of Light, experiencing Ultraman’s home world from within rather than simply viewing it from the outside.

One of the highlights is the Monster Exhibition Hall, where visitors encounter some of the franchise’s most famous kaiju at an impossible scale. Classic foes including Baltan Seijin, Gomora, and King Joe appear in a virtual environment designed to let visitors view them from multiple angles and appreciate details that would be difficult to experience through television screens alone. For longtime fans, it offers a rare chance to stand face-to-face with creatures that helped define generations of Ultraman stories.

The experience also includes the Ultra Hero Archive, which traces six decades of Ultraman history from the original 1966 hero through the latest generation of Ultra Warriors. Rather than presenting history as a static display, the archive forms part of the ongoing journey through the Land of Light. Visitors can also capture commemorative images within the experience itself, with downloadable photos available after the attraction—perfect for sharing your own adventure alongside some of Japan’s most famous heroes.

The journey culminates in large-scale battle sequences featuring legendary confrontations from Ultraman history. Visitors witness iconic encounters involving Zetton, Ultraman Belial, and other familiar faces while immersed in dramatic XR environments designed to place them at the center of the action. The result feels less like a museum visit and more like stepping into an episode of Ultraman itself.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan who remembers the original television series or a newcomer curious about one of Japan’s most influential pop-culture franchises, Ultraman XR Journey offers a different way to experience a beloved hero. It may not be the traditional exhibition some visitors expect, but that’s precisely the point. Rather than asking fans to look at Ultraman’s history, this attraction invites them to become part of it.
