Craft Gyoza Spring Festival

Endless Gyoza, Endless Joy!

Tsurumi‑Ryokuchi Park becomes a dumpling paradise—craft gyoza from across Japan, inventive flavors, and a festival atmosphere that’s part food tour, part feast.

Golden Week in Osaka brings some of the city’s biggest outdoor events, and few are as deliciously popular as the return of the Craft Gyoza Festival. For eight days, April 29-Mary 6, 2026,  food lovers gather near the iconic grounds of Osaka Castle Park to sample creative dumplings from specialty vendors across Japan.

Held in the park’s Taiyo no Hiroba event space in Osaka Castle Park, the festival celebrates one of Japan’s most beloved comfort foods: gyoza. More than 30 specialty vendors from across Japan gather in Osaka to serve over 30 creative dumpling varieties, ranging from classic crispy pan‑fried gyoza to inventive styles topped with cheese, herbs, seafood, and spicy sauces.

The event is part of the national Craft Gyoza Festival series, which hosts large-scale dumpling events in major cities across Japan. The Osaka edition has become a popular Golden Week destination, drawing crowds of locals, visitors, and hungry office workers looking for the perfect bite of crispy dumpling goodness.

Visitors can wander between stalls sampling different styles of dumplings, comparing flavors and textures from vendor to vendor. Many treat the event like a tasting tour, pairing gyoza with beer, soft drinks, or desserts while exploring the open lawns of Osaka Castle Park between bites.

The setting adds to the experience. With the towers of Osaka Castle rising nearby and spring greenery filling the park, visitors often spread out on the lawns between tastings, creating a relaxed picnic atmosphere that captures the spirit of Osaka’s outdoor food culture.

30+ Creative Gyoza – More than thirty dumpling styles compete for attention.

Golden Week Food Festival – One of Osaka’s most popular seasonal outdoor food events.

Beer & Gyoza Pairings – Cold drinks and dumplings are a perfect festival combination.

Osaka Castle Park Setting – Eat dumplings with views of one of Japan’s most famous landmarks.

Foodie Photo Opportunities – Colorful dumplings and sizzling grills make the event a social‑media favorite.

SCHEDULE

Festival Dates

April 29 – May 6, 2026

Opening Hours

Weekdays

11:00 – 20:00

Weekends & National Holidays

10:00 – 20:00

Last food orders typically close around 19:30–19:45, depending on vendor.

Because the festival takes place during Golden Week, the busiest times are:

• evening 17:00–19:00

The best time to visit is late morning or early afternoon on weekdays.

TICKETS

Entry to the festival grounds is free.

Visitors purchase food and drinks inside the venue.

Payment System

The festival typically operates using a ticket or cashless payment system:

Visitors purchase food tickets or digital credits at ticket counters near the entrance. These are then exchanged for dishes at vendor stalls.

Typical food prices range from:

¥600 – ¥1,200 per gyoza dish

Drink prices generally range from:

¥400 – ¥700

Because the event becomes crowded, it is recommended to buy multiple food tickets at once rather than returning to the ticket counter repeatedly.

No advance admission reservation is required.

INFO & TIPS

Seating

Most seating is casual outdoor tables or lawn areas inside Taiyo no Hiroba. Visitors often sit on the grass or share communal tables.

Bringing a small picnic blanket can make the experience more comfortable.

Golden Week Crowds

The event is extremely popular during Golden Week. Expect the following:

• long lines at popular vendors

• peak congestion in the afternoon and evening

• faster service earlier in the day

Weather

The festival is primarily outdoors. In case of rain, operations may continue depending on conditions.

Best Strategy

  1. walk the entire venue first

  2. identify the most interesting dumplings

  3. purchase tickets

  4. create their own gyoza tasting tour

This allows visitors to sample multiple regional styles of dumplings from across Japan.
