Long communal tables, imported German drafts, and one of Osaka’s most relaxed outdoor spring traditions return to Tennoji Park this Golden Week.
As Golden Week approaches, Tennoji Park’s Ten-shiba lawn once again transforms into one of Osaka’s most cheerful open-air beer gardens. Ten-shiba Frühlingsfest 2026 is scheduled for April 24 through May 6, continuing the now-established spring counterpart to the area’s popular Oktoberfest events.
Modeled after Germany’s traditional spring beer celebrations, the festival centers on imported German draft beer served beneath large branded tents and open-air service counters. Past Tenshiba editions have featured internationally recognized German breweries including Paulaner, Erdinger, Löwenbräu, Hofbräu München, and Franziskaner, pouring a range of styles such as pilsner, hefeweizen, dunkel, märzen, and seasonal specialties. Fruit beers and limited imports have also appeared in previous years. The official 2026 brewery lineup will be announced closer to opening.
Unlike ticketed indoor beer expos, Frühlingsfest operates as a relaxed beer garden format. Admission to the festival grounds is free, and guests purchase food and beverages individually. Long communal tables recreate a traditional Festzelt atmosphere, while the surrounding Ten-shiba lawn remains open for casual seating, making it one of Osaka’s more accessible and family-friendly Golden Week drinking events.
Food plays an equally important role. Previous editions have served bratwurst, currywurst, schnitzel, pretzels, roasted pork knuckle (schweinshaxe), German-style sausages, and grilled meats alongside hearty sides designed to pair with draft beer. The combination of imported beer, substantial food, and open-air energy gives the event a distinctly European feel — all set against the urban backdrop of Tennoji Station and Abeno Harukas.
While official attendance figures are not consistently published, the festival regularly draws substantial Golden Week crowds, particularly on weekend afternoons and early evenings. With its central location and free-entry model, Frühlingsfest has become one of Osaka’s most reliable spring drinking traditions.
