Ukiyo-e Immersive Art Exhibition
Classic ukiyo-e woodblock prints come alive in this large-scale immersive exhibition, where Edo-period art is transformed into moving worlds of color, sound, and projection in central Osaka.

The Ukiyo-e Immersive Art Exhibition Osaka offers a striking new way to experience one of Japan’s most globally recognized art forms. Presented at Grand Front Osaka’s Knowledge Capital Event Lab from January 17 to March 14, 2026, the exhibition uses large-scale projection mapping, animation, and sound to reinterpret classic ukiyo-e imagery—famous landscapes, seasonal scenes, and everyday moments from the Edo period—as fully immersive environments that visitors can walk through and explore.
Rather than viewing framed prints on walls, audiences are surrounded by flowing imagery that moves across floors and walls. Waves crash and recede, cherry blossoms drift through the air, and city scenes pulse with life, creating a sensory experience that bridges traditional Japanese aesthetics with contemporary digital expression.
The exhibition provides an accessible cultural encounter that requires no prior knowledge of Japanese art history or language. Visual storytelling takes center stage, making the experience intuitive and engaging for first-time visitors to Japan. At the same time, local residents will appreciate how familiar cultural icons are reinterpreted through modern technology.
Hosted at Grand Front Osaka’s Knowledge Capital Event Lab, the exhibition is fully indoors and weather-proof, making it especially appealing during Osaka’s winter months. Its central Umeda location also makes it an easy addition to a day of shopping, dining, or sightseeing.
