Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

Flavors & Cultural Exchange in Naniwa no Miya

Experience the magic of autumn moonlight with music, lanterns, street food, and cultural dance this October 4‑5 at Chūshū Meigetsusai Osaka — a free festival celebrating Sino‑Japanese traditions beside the ruins of Naniwa no Miya.

When autumn moonlight stretches across the ruins of Naniwa no Miya, Osaka becomes a stage of shared culture. Chūshū Meigetsusai Osaka 2025 brings together Japanese and Chinese traditions for two days—Saturday, October 4 (10am‑7pm) and Sunday, October 5 (10am‑6pm)—in Chūō‑ku, Osaka.

As the name suggests, this mid‑autumn festival (chūshū) embraces the moon’s full glory through traditional music, dance, martial arts and tai chi performances. Expect food stalls full of Chinese street food classics like gyoza, chāshū rice, zhajiangmian, and baozi, alongside Japanese festival treats such as takoyaki and matcha sweets. Marketplaces offer crafts and cultural goods, while hands-on booths allow visitors to try calligraphy, tea ceremony, or lantern painting — all in a spirit of intercultural connection.

The event is co‑hosted by the Chūshū Meigetsusai Osaka Executive Committee, Osaka City, and the Chinese Consulate in Osaka. Whether you’re drawn by the food, fascinated by the dance, or simply seeking a serene evening gazing at the moon with friends, this free festival is a reminder that culture, like the moon, is something to be shared.

Surrounded by History: Located at the historical Naniwa no Miya Ruins in Chūō-ku

Performance lineup: Chinese traditional music, Japanese dance, martial arts (tai chi, kung fu, more)
